1967 Selmer Paris Mark VI Tenor Saxophone
Vintage Selmer Paris Mark VI Tenor Saxophone with a serial number of #140XXX – estimated manufactured in 1967. American engraved, beautiful patina. Well used and played, not a closet horn but definitely for a player!
This saxophone was last used around 1991 and is being sold in as is condition. We did not service this other than having the neck cork replaced so it could be test played. This Selmer Paris Mark VI Tenor Saxophone plays as is, beautiful tone throughout the range of the instrument, but seemed to be losing a little air in the lower register.
Saxophone will need an overhaul at some point, but that could be delayed with some minor repairs and pad changes. Leak light showed that all the pads seal with the exception of the mid c tone hole, but with light pressure it did seal. The pads are spongy though, just from the saxophone sitting for so long. Corks throughout the instrument have fallen off, so it will need some corks and adjustments to be gig ready. An overhaul would be ideal, which we can offer to the buyer at an additional cost, and if they are willing to wait the time to have it done. Our techs are backed up right now so it would be 4-8 weeks to complete.
This Selmer Paris Mark VI Tenor Saxophone comes with the original case in good structural condition, though it is missing the side handle. The end handle is in tact. Inside the case there are no smells or stains.
The sax was used by a student player in the 1980’s and into the 1990’s, bought around 1985. There are signs of use, see photos for the best details. Notably, the neck has a very minor crease due to the start of a pull down. It does not look like it was pulled down, but it is more than likely from the previous owner not assembling the instrument properly. Structurally it looks fine, but for disclosure, it needs to be mentioned. No serial number on the neck, this process was stopped by the time this was manufactured. Other than that, just minor dings and dents typical with a used Selmer Paris Mark VI Tenor Saxophone of this era.
The saxophone was relacquered in the 1970’s – though it is difficult to tell based on the engraving. The saxophone was not highly buffed, the engraving is still crisp. There is lacquer on the pearl key touches and some lacquer drip marks.
Body tube is stamped Mark VI, and the serial number is stamped on the bell to body brace.
